Getting Going with Somatics in Groups

4-month Program for Somatic Professionals working with clients in groups

The lessons and skills of somatic healing modalities are usually demonstrated in individual work. Yet, there’s a growing need for group work - depending on the nature of the wounding, group work can be profoundly healing, it may be more financially accessible, and it can be fun!

In this 4-month Getting Going with Somatics in Groups program, you will explore the different ways of setting up group work (and consider what would best serve your clients), work directly with basic somatic skills (and ways of using them in groups), and develop professionally while learning experientially.

Life is short, and there’s so much we have to give and to receive.

Please join me if you want to grow and explore with groups. Together is better.

Getting Going with Somatics in Groups
Provides an initial roadmap to

  • Help you facilitate powerful groups based in somatic practices

  • Develop professionally while learning experientially

  • Learn and get curious about Somatic Skills that are especially applicable in groups (which somatic skills work when, in what context, and how?)

  • Consider different styles of groups that serve very different purposes (and how to choose what would work best for you, your clients, and your scope of practice)

  • Enjoy a supportive space to get feedback on your potential group offerings (support helps us be brave and try new things).

This group is a good fit if:

  • You’re an Somatic professsional and you want to start doing groupsbut you don’t know where to start

  • You’re already doing groups and you want to deepen the healing and learning.

  • You want to incorporate more somatics into your groups… and you’d like more clarity and confidence about how to do it

This group is a not a good fit if:

  • You are not yet working professionally with a modality such as Somatic Experiencing, Sensorimotor, Hakomi, or Integral Somatic Psychology.

  • You’re looking for a list of flashy new stuff or would be satisfied with a somatic template to add to your groups.

  • If you do not enjoy learning through a combination of methods (including experientially during the live classes) to slowly, thoughtfully, and effectively work with basic somatic skills for profound results.

SE skills in groups Learn more about what orientation, titration, pendulation, growing capacity, regulation can look like in a group

Support and Guidance for your questions, challenges, and yes your celebrations in developing group work

Personal Development Grow your own capacity for doing group work… and for enjoying your life as a human being, alone and with others

Whoa, that sounds like a lot for 4-months!

It is. And, it’s doable. Why? Because it’s not about running The Best Somatic Group Ever. It’s about developing enough skill, enough confidence to get going with your own groups. By the end of this program, you will have

  1. More clarity about the new group you want to run (or how to incorporate Somatics into what you’re doing)

  2. More Somatic group skills and capacity

  3. More enthusiasm and confidence about Getting your Group Going

Our world needs more spaces where connection and regulation is nurtured and valued, creating opportunities for personal and collective healing… and there’s great joy and satisfaction in contributing to a saner, kinder planet.

Please join me if this is a good fit for you!

F.A.Q.

Who is this for?  What skill level?

Somatic professionals working in the fields of talk therapy, coaching, teaching (including classroom teachers and yoga instructors) and bodywork. I am limiting this to people who are already somatically trained so that we have enough of a common language and appreciation of how to apply and work somatically. If you’re not an somatic professional, please contact me about other group offerings!

What kind of groups can I use Somatic work with?

Does somatic work work for groups that are 6 weeks or less? One-off groups? Drop in groups? Does this apply to in person and online groups? How can Somatics be used effectively in support groups, therapeutic groups, yoga classes, or educating clients about Somatics so they might be more open to individual somatic healing sessions? All of these are great questions! Like a lot of things in Somatic work, the answer is, “it depends.” Depends on what? Amy will review the different things to consider about why you might want to use different group structures depending on your clients’ needs, your own scope of practice, and your current skill level with facilitating.

Is there homework?

Yes! You will get the most out of the program if you engage the written homework! You’ll also get feedback from me if you ask direct questions. And, no stress, no grades, homework is optional. This is truly to enhance your learning and make sure you get the most out of the program. For some people, being in the group may be enough to integrate into what you’re already doing. If you’re new to facilitating groups, or if you’re developing new groups, or you need nudging with next steps, you’ll definitely want to do the suggested homework. How much time? 30-60 minutes/week.

Will sessions be recorded?

Yes, and…. I’d really like you to be there for the in-person classes. Because this group is experiential, you won’t get nearly as much out of it if you passively watch a recording. Yet, I want you to have the benefit of the video recording so if you need to miss a class or two, or there’s a part that you spaced out during (it happens) or if you just want to be present during the live class and not have to worry about taking notes, you can take notes later, or review something that was particularly relevant or helpful for you.

Can I get credit towards my SEP?

This program does not teach Somatic Experiencing or any other Somatic modality. It does cover enough basic applications of Somatics including SE in specific context of groups, and addresses participants questions about applying these skills in groups, that, yes, it is possible to earn between 1-3 credits of Group Case Consultation towards your SEP, depending on your investment of time and engagement. To earn credit, you’ll need to be in contact with me about your intent, actively engaged in live classes, and regularly submit the homework.

This group is limited to Somatic professionals.  If you’re not a Somatic professional, please contact me or join my newsletter for other embodiment offerings!

* Scholarships are available based on financial need. If this price takes away from your basic needs, please contact me directly and share a bit about your situation. Let me know the following: a little bit about your scope of practice, what types of groups you are hoping to offer, what your financial challenges are, and what would work for you. Since I am a solo-entrepreneur, I’m able to offer scholarships based on the number of people who sign up at full rate, and I divide the amount of money available for scholarships amongst those in need.

* Cancellation policy: Transparency is a core value in my business. I put a lot of effort into an accurate representation of this program and am happy to answer your questions in advance. Because these products are digital goods, once the course begins there are no refunds. Also, because each cohort is limited to the number participants that works well for the live class experientials, I also need to fill cohorts appropriately beforehand. You may cancel the program prior to September 1 to receive a full refund, minus a $50 admin fee. Half-refunds are available until the start date of your cohort. If you cancel on or after the start date of your cohort, no refunds are available.
