Getting Going with SE in Groups

4-month Guidance for SE professionals working with clients in groups

The lessons and skills of Somatic Experiencing are usually demonstrated in individual work. Yet, there’s a growing need for group work - depending on the nature of the wounding, group work can be profoundly healing, it may be more financially accessible, and it can be fun!

In this 4-month Getting Going with SE Groups program, you will explore the different ways of setting up group work (and consider what would best serve your clients), review SE skills (and ways of using them in groups), and develop professionally while learning experientially.

Life is short, and there’s so much we have to give and to receive.

Please join me if you want to grow and explore with groups. Together is better.

Getting Going with SE in Groups
Provides an initial roadmap to

  • Help you facilitate powerful groups with SE

  • Develop professionally while learning experientially

  • Learn and get curious about SE Skills that are especially applicable in groups (which SE skills work when, in what context, and how?)

  • Consider different styles of groups that serve very different purposes (and how to choose what would work best for you, your clients, and your scope of practice)

  • Enjoy a supportive space to get feedback on your potential group offerings (support helps us be brave and try new things).

This group is a good fit if:

  • You’re an SE student or practitioner and you want to start doing groupsbut you don’t know where to start

  • You’re already doing groups and you want to incorporate more SE into your groups… and you’d like more clarity and confidence about how to do it

F.A.Q.

Who is this for?  What skill level?

Somatic Experiencing professionals working in the fields of talk therapy, coaching, teaching (including classroom teachers and yoga instructors) and bodywork .  This particular group is limited to Somatic Experiencing Practitioners and SE Students who have completed their Beginning year.  If you’re not an SE professional, please contact me for other embodiment and professional offerings!

What kind of groups can I use SE with?

Does this apply (or can I use SE) in groups that are 6 weeks or less? One off groups? Drop in groups? Does this apply to in person and online groups? How can SE be used effectively in support groups, therapeutic groups, yoga classes, or educating clients about SE so they might be more open to SE work in session? All of these are great questions! Like a lot of things in SE, the answer is, “it depends.” Depends on what? Amy will review the different things to consider about why you might want to use different group structures depending on your clients’ needs, your own scope of practice, and your current skill level with facilitating.

Is there homework?

Yup, if you want it! For some people, being in the group may be enough to integrate into what you’re already doing. If you’re developing new groups, or you need nudging with next steps, you’ll definitely want to do the suggested homework.

Will sessions be recorded?

Yes, and…. I’d really like you to be there for the in-person classes. Because this group is experiential, you won’t get nearly as much out of it if you passively watch a recording. Yet, I want you to have the benefit of the video recording so if you miss a class, or there’s a part that you spaced out during (it happens) or if you just want to be present during group and not have to worry about taking notes, you can take notes later, or review something that was particularly relevant or helpful for you.

Personal Development Grow your own capacity for doing group work… and for enjoying your life as a human being, alone and with others

Whoa, that sounds like a lot for 4-months!

It is. And, it’s doable. Why? Because it’s not about running The Best SE Group Ever. It’s about developing enough skill, enough confidence to get going with your own groups. By the end of this program, you will have

  1. More clarity about the new group you want to run (or how to incorporate SE into what you’re doing)

  2. More SE skills and capacity

  3. More enthusiasm and confidence about Getting your SE Group Going

Our world needs more spaces where group regulation is nurtured and valued, creating opportunities for personal and collective healing… and there’s great joy and satisfaction in contributing to a saner, kinder planet.
